Skeet Fields

Skeet Shooting is a shotgun shooting sport where a clay target is released from one of two skeet houses, either low house or high house, and both houses. The targets fly left to right and right to left. The target flight, speed, size, and trajectory all stay the same in skeet and instead the shooter moves to 8 stations on a skeet field. Skeet squad size can vary from 2 up to 5 or 6. It can be greater than 6 only when all other shooters agree to the size.

Rules

For skeet practice, each field is equipped with a wireless "pickle". The "pickle" is used to launch a target from the appropriate skeet machines and is typically handed off to each non-shooter, as the squad cycles through the firing positions. Under no circumstances is it permissible to use your foot to press the "pickle" buttons; you will be asked to leave the club and may lose your GGC membership if you are found doing this.

All NSSA and GGC rules are in effect during tournaments. Only NSSA tournament officials may stop shooting during an NSSA tournament.

Skeet can be shot with any shotgun in a gauge from 12 gauge down to the .410 bore.

Ear and Eye protection forward of the fence barricade are required. Range Safety Officers may stop any shooting activities and request each shooter to wear this protection. If you don’t have it, you may purchase ear plugs in the clubhouse. Refusal to wear this protection violates the Rules and Regulations of the Club and the shooter will be asked to leave the GGC.

Only shells with shot size 7 ½, 8 or 9’s can be used on the fields and on the patterning board.  Please, no hunting loads with shot size 6, 4, 2, BB or buckshot.

Do not load more than one shell for single targets; two for doubles.

All Shotgun specific rules can be found posted in the clubhouse and posted on the bulletin board.

Cost

Greenville Gun Club uses the Promatic card system. Cards can be purchased from the Vending machine at the main club house. Current cost is $20.00 for 125 targets which will equal 5 rounds of Trap/Skeet and 5-Stand.

Hours

The skeet fields are open Sat & Sun from 12 PM to 5 PM and on Wed from 12 PM to 5 PM. GGC reserves the right to close earlier depending on attendance. Please refer to the Events page for any field closures.

Practice availability is impacted when Skeet has registered tournaments. Effectively, all fields are closed to practice when Skeet holds their periodic NSSA tournament. Please review the Events calendar to determine when those tournaments are held so you are not disappointed when coming to the ranges for practice.

Registered NSSA skeet shoots are not being hosted by the Greenville Gun Club at this time.
